PANTHER
PRIDE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT Letter from the President… It’s been an amazing year for the Panther Pride Foundation for Central Schools. The nine members of the board work diligently through the year to contact donors, manage investments, distribute funds, and are strong stewards of the contributions received by the Foundation. Among the highlights of this year were major contributions from the estate of Eva Balk for scholarships, Dr. Tom Nielsen for a math and science scholarship, and the Maplewood Alumni group, an organization with strong ties to education and the Central community. A sad and significant event occurred in December 2005 when Central senior Cory Heubner died in a car crash. A memorial fund was established that led to the construction of two new facilities at the high school. One will be a public restroom near the athletic fields and the second is a weight training facility for students. The Foundation serves as the financial manager for the Heubner Fund. Words cannot adequately express our sympathy to Cory’s family or our gratitude to the community for their generous support. The Foundation distributed 12 scholarships in May to graduating seniors. This brings the total value of all scholarships to $31,350 given to 67 Central graduates by the Foundation since 1997. Over the past 3 years, the Foundation and the Central School District have awarded $13,003 as learning enhancement or technology integration grants to Central teachers. These funds positively impact the teachers, students, and classrooms directly and assist the education process in great measure. Three board members will retire at this year’s annual meeting. Jim Bent has been a trustee since the inception of the Foundation and served as the first board president. Jim has skillfully guided the Foundation in a strong and successful direction. Gary Cantrell has been a trustee since 1998 and also served a term as board president. Gary has been the key leader in making the Foundation’s mission known to potential donors and community groups. Joe Leenerts served three years and has shared a wealth of financial and business expertise. The Foundation gratefully expresses its appreciation to these gentlemen for their time, talents, and passion for Central students. Bob Rhea, PPF President
