PANTHER
PRIDE FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT
Year Ending June 30, 2009
Letter
from the President…
The past year has seen great strides by the Panther Pride Foundation for Central Schools. The nine members of the board work diligently through the year to discuss ideas, manage funds, make awards, and to develop strong ties with alumni, students, and the school.
A special activity was established during the 2007-2008 and continued with rousing success this year. Pat Heinecke, a retired teacher and principal and current PPF trusteee, developed a unique collaboration with other area educators. She was a member of the leadership team that established the Academic Success Initiative; this group’s primary effort is to train other educators to use “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People”. The program has reached nearly all schools in Adams county and has been highlighted by the Covey group as a hallmark program. This year’s annual meeting will see these results in action when the PPF trustees attend the opening daily event at Central Elementary.
The Foundation distributed 14 scholarships in May 2009 to graduating seniors. This brings the total value of all scholarships to $50,821 given to 105 Central graduates by the Foundation since 1997.
Over the past 6 years, the Foundation and Central Schools have awarded $27,604 as learning enhancement or technology integration grants to Central teachers. These funds positively impact the teachers, students, and classrooms directly and assist the education process in great measure.
Heuby Bowl IV was held in June 2009. In 4 years, over $123,000 has been raised to benefit Central schools and students. Major projects include a weight room, restrooms, equipment, and establishing the Cory Heubner #21 scholarship. The second award was made this spring to Andrea Kestner.
The CSE Track Task Force was formed this year with a goal of renovating the track and field facility. The Foundation contributed $5000 to this effort.
The past year has been a challenging year for many foundations due to the decline in the stock market and general economic slowdown. Thanks to the conservative investment approach by the PPF trustees, the foundation avoided investment losses. Since the inception of the Foundation, $ 553,577 has been received with $ 365,929 donated to the school and students leaving $ 187,648 of funds in reserve.
One board member will retire at this year’s annual meeting. Myron Witt has served a full term and has participated in several foundation activities while offering his business insight to the benefit of Central students. The Foundation gratefully expresses our appreciation to Myron and the many other former trustees who shared their time, talents, and passion for education to benefit the students of Central schools.
