PANTHER PRIDE AWARDS GRANT MONEY

The Panther Pride Foundation for Central Schools is pleased to announce that almost $3500 was awarded for 2004 fall Learning Enhancement Grants. A total of 13 projects received full or partial funding in a joint effort from Panther Pride and the Central School Board. For the eighth consecutive year, Panther Pride is pleased to provide funding for projects that enhance learning at all grade levels in the Central school district. Following is a list of this year's grant recipients:

- Linda Aschemann, $300 for Leveled Readers program that allows students to meet in small groups to strengthen reading skills

- Linda Aschemann, $162 for microscopes to help introduce students to laboratory skills

- 4th Grade teachers, $300 for 25 sets of Scholastic Book Club's "Newberry Ten-Pack" which will help students increase fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, and other reading schools

- Diana Kelahan, $177.44 for books on tape to help students further enhance their development of phonemic awareness letter-sound relationships, and fluency by listening to good models of reading

- Cindy Scheiter, $119.66 for Guided Reading activities, Alphabet Stamp Set, and dry erase board and markers to help students with spelling skills

- Rosemary Smith, $225 for supplemental Language Arts materials, Reading Rods, Alphabet Stamps, and ink pads to help

students improve literacy, spelling, and vocabulary

- 2nd Grade teachers, $264 for reading and language set to enrich the practice of independent reading and language skills

- Mary Jo Ehrlich, $300 for Nonfiction books that have a wide variety of easy-to-read selections and photo illustrations that will appeal to new and reluctant readers

- Robert Brady, $50 for driver education equipment for maintenance education like tire pressure gauge and jumper cable to give student drivers hands on experience with basic car maintenance

- 5th Grade teachers, $552 for classroom calculators and storage cases to help students complete math activities and assignments that require the use of a calculator

- Chris Reffett & McKenzie Allison, $300 for classroom novels that will enhance learning by teaching students how to work cooperatively in a group, to work responsibly, and to help with

their comprehension and understanding of novels

- Peggy Anderson, $200 for three sets of books (a play, novel, and classic western) to enable the class to read a variety of literature

- Peggy Anderson, Randi Saul, & Jennifer Bozarth, $502.64 for two Alpha Smart 3000...students who do not have a home computer will be able to check out an Alpha Smart for homework purposes and save their projects

These 13 projects total $3,452.74. Many of these projects fall outside the regular school budget and wouldn't be possible without your continued support to the Panther Pride Foundation.
